Sweet yeast braid with raisins

Ingredients for 2 pieces of yeast plaits

  • 500 grams of wheat flour
  • 1 cube of yeast (42 grams)
  • 80 grams of sugar
  • a bit of salt
  • 120 ml milk
  • 80 grams of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 160 grams of raisins
  • 1 organic orange

1. Soak the raisins and grate the orange peel

First put the raisins in a bowl, cover with hot water and let soak.

Wash the orange well and rub the peel with a vegetable peeler or kitchen grater.

2. Prepare the yeast dough

For the yeast dough, first put the flour in a bowl, crumble the yeast into it, add sugar and salt.

Warm the milk, melt the butter and add to the remaining ingredients in the bowl.

Finally, break the eggs, mix all the ingredients well, knead to a smooth day and shape it into a ball.

3. Roll out the dough

Now spread the yeast dough on a floured worktop with your hands so that a large circle is created.

4. Add raisins and oranges

Drain the raisins, squeeze out and spread on the dough. Scatter the orange peel on top as well.

Then fold in the dough on all sides and knead again well.

5. Let the dough rest

Shape the yeast dough into a loaf, put it back in the bowl and cover with a cloth and let it rest for about 45 minutes.

6. Form rolls

Then knead the dough briefly, divide it into six equal parts and shape them into even strands.

7. Braid a braid

Now braid three strands each into a loose pigtail and place on a baking sheet.

8. Let it rest again

Cover the yeast plaits with a cloth and let rise again for 30 minutes.

9. Brush with milk

Then brush the yeast plaits with a little milk and bake in the preheated oven at 190 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Decorate the finished yeast plait with a frosting and sprinkle with flaked almonds.
